EMPA is the ETH domain's institution for multidisciplinary research into sustainable materials and systems engineering. As an independent, neutral research institution, EMPA solves selected tasks and problems of a scientific and technical nature within its sphere of activities. EMPA combines targeted applied research and development with high quality services and exploits its interdisciplinary skills to ensure an integrated approach.
The Materials Measurement Research Division of EMPA, located in Thun (Switzerland), is a national competence centre for micro-/nanomechanical characterisation that provides a wide range of related testing and research facilities for research as well as complementary techniques like topography measurements, chemical analysis, metallography etc. EMPA Thun has a large experience and well established service for in in-situ (SEM) mechanical characterisation of composite materials, coatings, powders, and electronic devices.
