IPU (Institute for Product Development) was established at the Technical University of Denmark in 1956 as a financially and administratively independent organisation with the objective to serve the industry with expert services in the development of products, materials, processes, manufacturing systems, organisation and management. IPU operates on commercial terms, receiving no government subsidies and paying for accommodation in the university campus. The company, which employs 56 persons, offers professional development assistance to industrial companies and research organisations in both the public and private sector. The IPU Section for Production is closely collaborating with the corresponding university division.
